Current Application Processing Timeframes

Helpful Information

  • Use eLicensing to expedite the processing of your application.
  • Submit your application and fee ONCE ONLY via mail or eLicensing, not both. Submitting multiple applications will delay processing of your application and exam scheduling.
  • Provide complete, accurate and detailed information in your application. Fingerprint reports from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation must be received and reviewed by the DRE with respect to each original license application. Please note, the fingerprint process is not within the DRE's control. In some cases, applications may be delayed due to the fingerprint process and/or the fingerprint results.
  • To find out if your application has been received by DRE, check your bank statement or credit card statement to see if your fee has been processed. It will be helpful to know this information should you need to contact us.
  • Additional suggestions are provided in Do's and Don'ts for Exam Applicants.

The Department of Real Estate (DRE) receives a significant number of telephone calls per day. Your assistance is needed to help us provide the best service possible.

  • Our processing timeframes have been impacted by staffing restrictions and may be longer than usual. Timeframes are updated on a weekly basis. Please check the posted processing timeframes before contacting the Licensing Program.

* Licensees can submit renewal applications up to 90 days before the license expiration date, but renewals are processed in date received order. Renewal documents and fees must be postmarked no later than midnight of the four-year license expiration date to be considered on-time. If all renewal requirements are properly submitted, Section 10156.2 of the Business and Professions Code allows for continued operations under the existing license after its expiration date unless notified otherwise by DRE.
